Recommendations

Important:

The degree of protection against UVB rays (not UVA or other types of solar radiation), known as SPF (Sun Protection Factor), is the product's ability to filter out solar rays.

The SPF degree indicates how many times the photoprotector increases the skin's natural defense capacity against erythema (reddening).

Every skin type needs a specific type of protection. Scientists have estimated that the average natural protection time for various skin types is 10 minutes; therefore, an SPF of 50 will protect our skin for 50 x 10 minutes = 500 minutes, which is 8 hours. In other words, with one application and without submerging in water, an SPF 50 provides nearly 8 hours of protection.

Protection will not last as long if we swim or if there is excessive perspiration; therefore, it is recommended to apply the product more often in these or similar cases.

Other means of protection, such as hats, umbrellas, shirts, and avoiding peak sun hours, are just as important, if not more so!

Skin must be cared for during the first sun exposures. UVA and UVB rays are very harmful, and skin that burns is not healthy skin, and long exposures to the sun between 12:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. are not good.

Redness of the skin, or solar erythema, is primarily caused by UVB rays (though partly by UVA rays as well), so SPF primarily measures protection against them. Skin cancer has been attributed to UVB rays (though it is known that UVA is equally harmful).

Degrees of Protection:

a) Very high: 50+

b) High: 30-50

c) Medium: 15-25

d) Low: 6-10

Apply a sufficient amount

All of this, of course, with proper compliance (apply 2mg/cm² and reapply every 2-3 hours).

In an adult of average build, this would be equivalent to 6 teaspoons or a shot glass.

Sunscreen is not everything

Sunscreen is a complement to other measures to protect us from UV rays.

Sun protection factor: the higher, the better.

Any degree of sun exposure increases the risk of skin cancer to a greater or lesser extent.

A melanoma is no joke, and therefore, it is best to prevent it while there is still time.

Most of us do not strictly follow the recommended application amounts and frequencies, so, bearing this in mind, dermatologists generally recommend an SPF 50+.

Do not apply photoprotectors to babies under 6 months old.

Before 6 months, babies still have immature skin. Sunscreen creams contain chemicals (the solar filters themselves) that could pass through the skin and enter the baby's bloodstream.
